Adelaide defender Alex Keath has requested a trade to the Western Bulldogs.

Keath's decision to choose the Bulldogs comes as a surprising move given weeks of speculation linking the 27-year-old to St Kilda.

However, Mitch Cleary of AFL.com.au reports Keath informed the Crows and other interested clubs of his decision on Thursday afternoon.

Keath reportedly was seeking a longer contract to secure his future, which the Bulldogs were able to provide.

With the Crows looking to rejuvenate their list with youth and the Dogs holding a large amount of salary cap space after the retirements of Tom Boyd, Liam Picken and Dale Morris, the Victorian club proved to be a good match for Keath.

Keath also toured St Kilda's facilities in Moorabbin earlier this month, leading many to speculate his future may be with the Saints.

"I will be forever grateful to the Adelaide Football Club for providing me with the opportunity to test myself at the AFL level," Keath in a statement.

"Playing with exceptional players and for their passionate supporters has been a highlight of my career. I am now excited by the prospect of becoming part of the emerging Western Bulldogs squad, and hopefully a trade can be facilitated."

The Bulldogs hold picks 12, 30, 41, 46 and 48 to use for a potential trade.

The club is also circling around St Kilda tall Josh Bruce in what could be a productive trade period in the Western suburbs on Melbourne.

As for the Crows, after another disappointing season, there is expected to be a mass exodus from Adelaide.

Josh Jenkins has already requested a trade while Sam Jacobs intends to leave via free agency in the next month.

Eddie Betts has also been heavily linked to a return to Carlton in recent months along with reports that young midfielder Brad Crouch is being shopped around by his agent.

27-year-old Hugh Greenwood is also linked to the Gold Coast to cap off what could be a chaotic trade period for the club.
