Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield says the potential of winning the Brownlow Medal will have no bearing on the the club's decision to challenge his one-game suspension.

Dangerfield received a one-game ban on Monday afternoon his his tackle on Carlton ruckman Matthew Kreuzer, which left the former No.1 draft pick concussed and unable to take any further part in the game.

“It’s not ideal, but at the end of the day, we’ll make a decision that’s best for the team - not the individual," Dangerfield said.

“No doubt (I take the Brownlow out of any decision). It’s the last thing on my mind.

"What we’re focused on is not only this week, but the remainder of the season and putting ourselves in a really strong position come the end of the year and come the start of the finals campaign. That’s an important part of the decision that’s to be made.

"We’ve just come out of our team meeting, so it’s been a bit of a whirlwind half an hour. That’s something (appealing the ban) that we’ll discuss as a club. We’ll come to the right decision and move on from there."

If the Cats accept Dangerfield's his ban, he will be ineligible for the Brownlow Medal, which he is the raging favourite to win. However, should they challenge and lose, he will miss two matches.

Gelong face Sydney and Richmond in the next fortnight.
