John Worsfold is drawing attention from Fremantle as a potential senior assistant to work alongside rookie coach Justin Longmuir.

Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick said it would "be silly" not to explore the possibility of potentially bringing in the former premiership coach as a mentor that can use his wisdom and expertise to develop the Dockers young playing list.

"Clearly John [Worsfold] has got a remarkable record as a player, as a coach, as a general leader in AFL footy so you'd be silly not to look at that type of option,” Garlick told ABC Radio.

"I don't know John well, I did utilise his wisdom and expertise in a process that eventuated in Luke Beveridge being appointed when I was at the [Western] Bulldogs and found him really insightful and measured during that process.

Worsfold is a former premiership captain and coach of the West Coast Eagles and a move to their cross-town rivals would raise the eyebrows of both fan bases and add fuel to an already simmering rivalry between the pair.

The Essendon coach has signalled his intentions to remain in the football industry once he leaves the Bombers at the end of the season but has stated he will keep a “very broad mind” regarding his next move.
