Western Bulldogs v Melbourne

It was the return of Bob Murphy and also the reigning premiers on Saturday afternoon, but Melbourne spoiled the party at Whitten oval. Max Gawn had 26 hitouts and a goal, but his dominance was somewhat aided by the injury to Dogs' ruckman Jordan Roughead. New recruit Jordan Lewis impressed in his role through the middle and helping out down back. Newly appointed co-captain Jack Viney also had a bit of the footy, finishing with 22 disposals.

For the Dogs it was all about how their forwardline would set up with Travis Cloke, Tom Boyd, Stewart Crameri and Jake Stringer all in the side. It was big ticket recruit Travis Cloke who impressed the most, taking nine marks and booting two goals, one of which was a super goal.

Bob Murphy was solid in his return with 16 disposals, but best afield was clearly Luke Dahlhaus, who had 27 disposals (13 contested), two goals and eight tackles.
