If we could bring back 5 player from...Colligwood
This week, we’re bringing back five players from Hawthorn's past as a gift to their footy-starved fans.
We’re not necessarily picking the five best players of years past, but rather those stars still in the memory of Hawks fans and most likely to deliver some much needed excitement. Or for a variety of other reasons, like players with unfinished business, that fill team needs or would offer good marketing revenue during these tough times.
Any returning player comes back at the peak of their powers, which is just as well, because sentimentality aside, we're pretty sure Clarko would have no qualms about dragging these club legends if they came back out-of-shape and middle-aged...
2. Shane Crawford
Every locker room needs a class clown, and Crawf could probably forge a long career filling just that niche. It's a bonus, then, that the 305-gamer knows how to kick a football too.
Crawf would genuinely make the Hawks midfield one of the best in the competition and it'd be some sight to see him starring in a well-oiled Hawthorn machine. It's a major exaggeration to say the Brownlow Medal winner missed out on anything in his career, but his retirement came just at the beginning of Hawthorn's golden era. We're sure Clarko could use him to mastermind another premiership or three.
