GWS has informed Wade Derksen that he will not be offered a contract for 2026.

Derkson was a 2022 mid-season recruit for the club, and showed plenty of promise throughout his 57 VFL outings for the Giants, despite not debuting in the AFL side.

The utility featured at both ends of the ground, but failed to break through a strong Giants side led by Adam Kingsley.

The likes of Sam Taylor, Harry Himmelberg, Jack Buckley, Connor Idun and Leek Aleer pushed him further down the rankings, while the forward stocks of Jesse Hogan, Aaron Cadman and Jake Riccardi were enough.

The re-signing of Aleer to a two-year deal after St Kilda pulled their interest meant a squeeze was on in New South Wales.

"This time of year always brings tough decisions, and unfortunately, we weren't able to offer Wade a contract for the 2026 season," GWS EGM of Football Jason McCartney said.

"Since joining us via the Mid-Season Rookie Draft, he approached every opportunity and challenge with professionalism and determination and made a strong impact within our program, particularly at VFL level.

"Wade and his young family have been much-loved members of our football club over the past three years, and we wish them all the best for the future."

Melbourne had held interest in Derksen for the better part of 18 months, and looked to trade him into the club at the end of 2024. However, the Giants held the youngster to his contract.

The Demons renewed their interest but ultimately backflipped as they targeted experienced forward and Collingwood premiership player Brody Mihocek.

The Giants also farewelled veterans Callan Ward and Lachie Keeffe through retirement, as well as Jacob Wehr to Port Adelaide.

Josh Fahey joins Derksen as a delisted player.
