GWS head of talent Adrian Caruso has stressed the club is intent on proving to Toby Greene that the Giants have bright short-term future amid growing speculation about the superstar's next move.
Greene is out of contract at the end of the season and an unrestricted free agent, sparking talk he could end his career back home in Melbourne.
Caruso said the Giants had to "show" Greene, and another looming free agent Jesse Hogan, success is just around the corner.
"I think for someone like a Toby and Jesse, they're looking to have success so they're decision is going to be made around if I'm re-signing for two, three years, am I going to have the success at the Giants as opposed to leaving and go and have success elsewhere?" Caruso told Zero Hanger.
"So we need to show them that we're going to be good and hopefully that's through the development of our younger players and the consistency of our older guys."
Caruso said Greene was a "loved member" of the Giants.
“So we've just got to continue to show him that we're the best option for him and I'm confident we can do that," Caruso said.
Caruso discussed the AFL Draft rule changes, the Giants' young crop, the 2026 prospects and more in a special episode of Craft of the Draft.
Greene's combustible character and personality is well-suited to the packed out MCG crowds and whether he wants to experience that as a home player may also come into his thinking.
He has been tabled a two-year offer by the Giants and has captained the club since 2023, remaining loyal to the club since being selected as a foundation Giant. Former club captains Jack Steele and Oscar Allen left their clubs last year.
But the 32-year-old has not yet signed as rival interest heats up, and after 269 games, this contract may be the last time he signs a multi-year deal, so he will need to weigh up where he is most likely to taste success.
Greene has played in 17 finals games, including the 2019 decider.
The Giants have started the season slowly, currently sitting at 3-5, but have been dealt significant injuries and will hope to get their season back on track against Essendon and West Coast in the next fortnight.

“Obviously this year you lose Tom Green (to an ACL injury) and it's a massive out,” Caruso added.
“And obviously he'll be a big part of what we're trying to do next year and what we're trying to say to these guys (is that) we can bounce next year.
“Regardless of what happens this year, we should be even better next year with that and the development of our younger players."
Caruso's full interview with Craft of the Draft will be live on Zero Hanger's YouTube and podcast channels this Friday.
