Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir is confident the club is running out games well as his side prepares for a third consecutive six-day break.

The Dockers conceded five of the last six goals against Carlton after establishing a match-winning lead, before Western Bulldogs kicked four of the last five in Round 8 to give itself a sniff of an unlikely comeback.

The coach attributed each fade-out to clear and different explanations.

"I don't think that's got anything to do with the six-day break," Longmuir said of the poor finishes.

"We were 30 points up against Carlton and took our three captains off and Sam Switkowski so maybe we got a bit cute, so that might be on us.

"And I thought we got caught up in the emotion and excitement of the game on the weekend and we went away from what had got us to that point.

"I thought once they kicked three, we settled really well and got back into it and finished off the game really well. I'm not giving us an out…it's something we need to look at, see if we need more run in the team and selection maybe plays a part in that."

The Dockers face a Hawthorn side which will be smarting about its inability to beat Collingwood despite winning key metrics.

Longmuir said the club would have to be cognisant of livewire Nick Watson and praised their consistency across the ground ahead of the top-of-the-table clash.

"We don't have to prove anything to anyone, we just have to see if our footy stacks up," Longmuir said.

"It's another opportunity for us to try and improve our footy. We understand our footy, understand our strengths.

"Last year, we played our best footy against the better sides so I don't think we have to prove anything, it will just be another indicator of where our footy is at, win, lose or draw."
