The Gold Coast Suns are making moves.

Reported by Foxfooty.com.au, assistant coaches Andy Lovell and Matt Primus will not have their contracts renewed beyond this season, with both midfield assistants the first to be told their fate regarding Gold Coast's off-season clean out.

Lovell, a 164-gamer for Melbourne and West Coast has been with the Suns since its inception after working with West Coast, Geelong, East Perth in the WAFL and St Kilda.

Primus signed with the Suns soon after leaving the head coaching position at Port Adelaide in 2012.

The decision to move the two assistants came in late June, over a month before the August 1 deadline where the AFLCA suggests every assistant in the AFL should know their future.

Although not a strict rule, it's a guideline clubs usually follow. It's suggested that if a coach hasn't received an offer by the 1st of August they should look elsewhere for a job next season.

It is believed Primus and Lovell wanted to know the what the club planned to do with them in the future in order to pursue new opportunities if need be.

The two assistants will leave a big hole which needs to be field but are not the only pieces that the Suns look to move.

With superstars Tom Lynch and Steven May rumoured to be leaving the club, the Suns look to be going into a full rebuild as they aim to, sooner rather than later, make their first finals berth in their young history.
