Gold Coast has declared its plan for all outcomes regarding Ben King's future as the star forward weighs up a move to Victoria.
King is a restricted free agent and was close to re-signing with the club on a two-year deal. The Hawks have maintained interest throughout the season and pose as the likeliest destination for the right-footer.
"What we do understand is that Ben is a free agent. He's earned the right to go and explore his options. And that's what the rules permit," Gold Coast list and recruiting manager Kall Burns said on AFL Media.
"Ben's done that. Clearly, we'd like him to stay at the football club, so we will wait to see how that plays out.

"I think all football clubs are good at planning for multiple scenarios. We've planned for all outcomes."
Burns was also quizzed on forward-mid Bailey Humphrey, who, despite being contracted until the end of 2028, is once again being lured by rivals in Victoria.
Melbourne has maintained its interest, while Collingwood and Hawthorn have been linked to him.
"Very aligned to Damien and the entire football club," Burns said. "Bailey is contract and we'd like him to stay at the football club."

Veteran ruckman Jarrod Witts has opened discussions with Gold Coast on an extension, according to Burns.
Witts has played 12 games this year, and has begun making room for Ned Moyle as the No.1 man for Hardwick, while Ethan Read, Mac Andrew and Jed Walter have assisted as back-ups.
Burns also commented on the club's interest in Essendon defender Jordan Ridley.
"Clubs are always looking to improve their list, and we're no different. We're having conversations with a number of players and agents about how we can improve our list," he said.
