Fremantle has been struck a serious blow ahead of its finals campaign with key defender Brennan Cox suffering a suspected calf injury.

The incident occurred during the first quarter of Saturday's clash between Carlton and Fremantle at Marvel Stadium.

Cox ran at a contest before getting the ball and handed it off to a teammate.

It all seemed fairly innocuous, but the 28-year-old immediately pointed to the bench and jogged over before an ice pack was placed on his calf, and he put his head in his hands.

Fremantle will be hoping the injury is of minor significance and that he can recover in time for the club's home qualifying final in a fortnight.

Cox failed to play out the rest of the match.

Western Bulldogs veteran Tom Liberatore is set for surgery on his problematic knee, but according to The Herald Sun, it doesn't mean his season is done.

Liberatore will have another surgery after the 34-year-old had a procedure on his knee in April.

The midfielder is reported to have had knee soreness during the week and missed the club's last training session.

He is expected to miss a couple of weeks.

Liberatore is averaging 24 disposals per game across 11 matches in 2026.
