Fremantle key forward Josh Treacy will not play this weekend in a critical clash against Port Adelaide on Sunday, whilst Sean Darcy will need to get through main training on Thursday to return.
Fremantle Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty confirmed on Tuesday morning via SEN WAย that Treacy will be unavailable, and Darcy is looking hopeful for a return.
Brierty said Treacy has been battling a low-grade Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) injury since the round 21 defeat to the Bombers and is too much of a risk to play him this weekend.
Brierty expressed the plan would be for him to return in Week 1 of Finals if the Dockers were to make it.
โIt's been a frustrating one with JT (Treacy), where he's had a low-grade PCL injury,โ Brierty said.
โWe're needing that to stabilise week-to-week, and we've been getting that assessed with a specialist.
โHe's still had some contusions, which obviously, from a healing point of view, it's been around the knee, and he won't be available for this weekend either.
โObviously, the risk versus reward with these things and the PCL is one of the things you don't take risks with.
โAt this point in time, he's still progressing really well, and it's healing, but we would look for him to be available again for the first final if we were to get through.
Treacy has had a standout year, kicking 45 goals from his 20 appearances, averaging 2.3 goals and 6.1 marks.
Brierty said Darcy has a chance to return this weekend if he can get through this week of training.
"He's having a run today, he jumped on the Alter G over the weekend and ran at 80%...," said the Fremantle Executive General Manager.
"The plan is for him to main train on Thursday to put himself up for selection."
Darcy would be a crucial addition for Fremantle on Sunday, with everything on the line for the Dockers, as they must secure a win to have a chance to play the final and secure a top 8 spot.
