Following his retirement from the AFL, Rory Atkins will suit up for local club Maribyrnong Park in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL) in 2026.
Atkins hung up the boots after 13 seasons and 141 games, spanning stints at Adelaide, Gold Coast and, most recently, Port Adelaide.
He was drafted with Pick 81 in the 2012 National Draft by the Crows, and carved out a strong career playing across the half-back line and wing. Atkins notched up over 100 matches at West Lakes, including the 2017 grand final.
Since his retirement announcement, the 31-year-old has taken up a role at Melbourne in their development team, working closely alongside new Head of Development Taylor Whitford.
""Marby's Favourite Son Returns!" the social media statement read.
"Rory Atkins aka ‘The Rat' heads home to Melbourne for a great opportunity to join the Melbourne Demons (AFL) in Footy Development.
"This has also opened up another opportunity to play some games back at his old local club. Rory is as staunch as they come & can't wait to help Marby get back to the top!
"Congratulations on what you have achieved Rory, cant wait to see you in the Lions kit in 2026!"

Maribyrnong finished seventh in 2025 in the premier division after being elevated from Division One following their premiership win over West Coburg.
The Lions also have former Collingwood player Brodie Holland coaching the senior side, and has been confirmed to be leading the club in 2026.
Brothers Josh and Ryan Eyre have arrived from Castlemaine, but were confirmed in the middle of the season.
Josh spent time at both Essendon and Collingwood but never featured at AFL level.
Gold Coast star Touk Miller also played his junior football at Maribyrnong Park.
