Former St Kilda star David Armitage has moved into coaching, with the Queenslander taking the reins at local club Palm Beach Currumbin for the next two years.

Armitage featured for the Lions on three occasions this year after moving back to his home state, having spent time with VAFA club Collegians and MPNFL side Bonbeach in recent years.

The 35-year-old, who was born in Mackay, played 169 games for the Saints across 13 years with the club, with Armitage calling time on his career in 2019 following several injury-interrupted seasons.

The hard-nosed midfielder is now stepping into a coaching role in 2024, with QAFL side Palm Beach Currumbin appointing Armitage as their new senior coach for the coming pair of seasons.

"We're thrilled to announce that David Armitage is taking the reins as our Senior Coach for the 2024- 2025 seasons," a club post read.

"A true legend in the world of Australian rules football, David brings immense experience and leadership to our beloved Palm Beach Currumbin AFC 🦁

"His impressive journey, both on and off the field, promises a bright future for our club. Let's welcome David with open arms and look forward to an incredible season ahead!"

Armitage averaged 19.70 disposals, 3.70 marks, 4.80 tackles and 3.72 clearances during his AFL career, playing three finals matches during his time with the Saints.

The veteran midfielder played in a trio of games for the Lions this year, featuring in their season opener before returning for their final two games of the home and away season.

Palm Beach Currumbin managed a sixth-placed finish in the QAFL this year, recording eight wins, nine losses and a draw before bowing out of contention in week one of the finals.
