The Blues have been up and down so far this season, and there is no doubt that despite their efforts in the trade period, still need to strengthen some positions.

We continue our ‘Five trade targets for every club’ series with Carlton. The idea of these stories is to identify potentially gettable targets who could fill roles, not just link every club to the likes of Marcus Bontempelli and Patrick Cripps.

FIVE TRADE TARGETS FOR: Adelaide Crows, Brisbane Lions

With that, here are some players which will help elevate Carlton back to the top after so many years of heartache.

So in no particular order, here is it – five players we think Carlton should have on their hit list.

3. Ben McKay

This one might be more wishful thinking than anything, but the Blues would simply be silly not to pursue Ben McKay - twin brother of their star forward McKay. While Harry has earned all the plaudits as the current Coleman Medal leader with 33 goals, Ben has been very impressive at stopping them at the other end of the ground for North Melbourne.

With Robbie Tarrant injured, McKay has stepped up as the Roos' number one key defensive stopper and would be an upgrade on Liam Jones. He would provide the perfect long-term defensive pairing with Jacob Weitering and has the capacity to swing into attack as insurance for injured forward Charlie Curnow.

Given Harry is out-of-contract and reportedly set to attract lucrative rival offers, what better way to guarantee his long-term future than by prying his twin bro, whose deal with the Kangaroos also expires this year, then make them both Blues for life? Carlton would be a seriously dangerous unit with a McKay at either end of the ground.
