VFL outfit the Northern Bullants have appointed former Collingwood and Fremantle midfielder Brodie Holland as their senior coach.

Holland succeeds Adelaide champion Ben Hart at Kramer Street after the two-time premiership defender ventured to GWS for 2023.

Hart took over the senior coaching position at the Bullants after Holland's ex-teammate Josh Fraser departed his spot at the helm in favour of a return to Collingwood at the end of last year.

Holland arrives from local Victorian club Caroline Springs, having built a successive career as a senior coach at the local level.

“It's incredibly exciting,” Holland told northernbullantsfc.com.au of his arrival.

“I am getting my head around the club and talking to a lot of people about what we need to improve both off field and on field.

“I'm keen to make this place a powerhouse again in good time.

“I developed a strong young list at Caroline Springs. We took a young team from second last to top of the ladder after the home and way season in four years.”

“My philosophies as a coach really align with what I heard from those who recruited me to the Bullants. I am big on accountability; being a good person on and off the field; building a strong culture; being a selfless footballer – everything this club stands for.”

Holland will be handed a challenge to steer the Bullants toward finals contention in the VFL next season after the Preston-based club managed just the one win in 2022 to finish 21st on the ladder.

Northern are home to former AFL players Kyle Dunkley and Ben Silvagni.

Holland played 155 games in the AFL between 1998-2008, beginning his career at Fremantle before joining Collingwood ahead of the 2001 season.
