GWS captain Toby Greene remains no certainty of facing the reigning premiers on Saturday as he looks to overcome a glute concern.

Greene was subbed out of last week's loss to Port Adelaide after cuffering a corkie, which has continued to limit the star forward at training.

The Giants veteran was unable to get through training at the club's main session on Thursday, placing some doubt over his prospects for the game at the Gabba against the Lions.

Coach Adam Kinglsey will give his skipper every chance he can in the lead-up to the clash, with Greene to go under further assessment.

"He's a bit sore today," Kingsley said.

"We'll give him every chance, but he didn't get through training and see how that goes. I'll speak to the physios on how close he actually is.

"He's still got 48 hours, so we'll give him every chance. If it's not likely he's going to play, then we'll just name him out.

"It's a deep cork, that's why it's hindering him to move. It hasn't recovered like we expected today. Hopefully he'll come good."

The Giants will have young gun Finn Callaghan (shoulder) back from injury, while defender Leek Aleer's chances of playing are promising as he trained fully amid a rib issue.

Kingsley could have another selection boost in the second half of the season as former captain Stephen Coniglio continues to recover from a glute injury of his own.

The 31-year-old hasn't played since March, given the ongoing injury; however, his hopes of a return have been buoyed by a positive return to training, placing him in the window to return to the field in the coming weeks.

"He trained well today, so I don't think he's too far away," Kingsley said of the veteran midfielder.

"I'd imagine we'd give him another week or two of training and then he should be good to go.

"You can't just put him back in, he's missed a lot of weeks, it's up near 12 now. So we've got to make sure he's ready to play, whether that's AFL or VFL."

Kingsley was also satisfied by the debut of ruckman Nick Madden last week, hinting his form could leave sidelined tall Kieren Briggs out of the side when he becomes fit.

The Giants will head to the Queensland capital to take on the Lions on their home deck on Saturday at 1:20 pm (AEST).
