Dual All-Australian ruckman Brodie Grundy has joined his third AFL club in as many seasons, departing the Demons after a solitary campaign to join Sydney on Wednesday afternoon.

As first reported by Michael Gleeson of The Age, the decorated big man has joined John Longmire's side on the third day of the exchange period, the move becoming official after many weeks of speculation.

Grundy will now make tracks to help fill the void made at Moore Park by the retirement of Tom Hickey.

Melbourne has parted with Grundy, but is set to receive pick 46 at this year's draft, as well as Sydney's second-round selection in 2024.

Grundy arrived at Melbourne during the 2022 trade period, joining the Dees after 177 games over 10 seasons with Collingwood, however, the 29-year-old has now departed after adding only 17 appearances in red and blue.

Speaking by way of an official club statement, Swans GM of Football Charlie Gardner spoke on behlaf of the club, claiming the were keen to see Grundy get to work.

"We're excited to be able to bring Brodie to Sydney – he is an outstanding person and an elite ruckman in the competition, and will be a fantastic addition to our club,” said Gardiner.

“We worked closely with Melbourne to facilitate the trade and we look forward to seeing Brodie in the red and white in 2024.”

The move to make Grundy a Swan is Sydney's second official trade of the day after the Harbour City club sent former top-10 draftee Dylan Moore and pick 25 to North Melbourne earlier on Wednesday in exchange for the Kangaroos' end of first-rounder next year as well as the 44th selection of this year's draft.

Sydney is also expected to finalise a trade for Collingwood vice-captain Taylor Adams after the midfielder requested to be moved to the Swans ahead of the opening trade bell.

Melbourne have also been busy, with reports emerging that the Redlegs have involved themselves in a four-team trade which has seen Simon Goodwin's side land pick 11.

In a deal also involved both Adelaide and North Melbourne, the Demons landed the prized pick after seind picks 14, 27 and 35 to the Gold Coast Suns.
