2008 Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney has named his top five players in the AFL in three years time on 1116 SEN.

Cooney's list features two midfielders, two key forwards and a medium forward.

Only two of the five players are from Victorian clubs, showcasing the elite potential talent developing outside of Victoria.

2. Marcus Bontempelli

The 2016 premiership star and two-time best and fairest winner is one of the game's premier midfielders, again at just 22 years of age.

Bontempelli has been brilliant for the Dogs since joining the club four seasons ago, and he's continually improved his game year after year to become a genuine superstar.

“Since the first day he walked into the footy club, I knew he was going to be something special," Cooney said.

"He is a big boy, but a really smooth mover and quicker than what you think. He is a future captain of the Western Bulldogs.”
