Collingwood is ready to create a "whole new version" of themselves as they embark on a new AFL season, beginning Sunday against the Giants at ENGIE Stadium.

Pies 2023 premiership coach Craig McRae said on Friday that he's not interested in "recapturing" the form of their flag year, but instead bringing "a whole new feel... new energy" to tackle the upcoming campaign.

Recruits Harry Perryman, Tim Membrey and Dan Houston will play a huge role in driving a fresh feel at the club, with the latter forced to wait another week to be unveiled due to suspension.

Noting the potential combination of the two-time All-Australian with 2023 Copeland Trophy winner Josh Daicos off the half-back line, McRae could barely contain his excitement as to what the elite-kicking pair can produce.

"It's a real weapon to have Josh off half-back," McRae said.

"The game now requires you to hit targets out of D50 or else you're in trouble.

"And to have Josh, and Dan, they'll be a couple of weapons that will ask a lot of questions of the opposition.

"Dan's like no one else.

"Show us what you've got. Display your strengths. Show the world how good you are. If you stuff up, who cares. Go again.

"You're a brilliant kick. Those things we're looking forward to next week."

Daicos' move to the backline has freed up a position on the wing, which youngster Ed Allan is attempting to grab.

Allan has played two AFL matches, including a memorable Round 24 contest against Melbourne last year, and is eyeing more senior opportunities.

Match-winner Jordan De Goey is making tremendous progress from his persistent knee issue, despite being ruled out of Opening Round.

De Goey trained strongly on Friday and is on track to put his hand up for selection in Round 1 against Port Adelaide.

"Jordy's on a path to play, clearly not this week," McRae said.

"He's making a case for next week, but we'll see.

"We want to make sure Jordy gets a power of work into those legs of his."

Both Perryman and Membrey will line up for their new clubs on Sunday, with the former taking on his old side.

Collingwood will announce its starting 23 at 5:00pm (AEDT) on Friday.
