Geelong have been forced into a late change to their squad for Friday's preliminary final against Melbourne.

The Cats have revealed that due to concussion, emergency Sam Simpson will be replaced by midfielder Quinton Narkle in the 26-man squad.

Narkle will join teammates Luke Dahlhaus, Darcy Fort and Shaun Higgins in being listed as emergencies for Friday's game at Optus Stadium.

Geelong made one change from their side that defeated Greater Western Sydney last week, with defender Zach Guthrie coming into the team to replace the injured Brandan Parfitt, who suffered a season-ending hamstring injury.

The Cats and Demons will confirm their 23-man sides - with one of the four emergencies being named as a medical sub - at 6:50pm AEST.
