Carlton has been forced into a late change for their blockbuster against fellow finals fancies Hawthorn as mid-season draftee Flynn Riley replaces ruckman Marc Pittonet.

Pittonet has succumbed to a "minor" hamstring strain, opening the door for Riley's AFL debut. He will be the Blues' sixth debutant.

The 206cm ruckman was elevated from Carlton's VFL program in May, taken with Pick 4.

Riley has played eight games for the Blues' VFL team this year, averaging 36.8 hitouts and 15.8 disposals.

Carlton General Manager of Football Chris Davies emphasises the 22-year-old's ability to adapt to the new ruck rules.

"We think that certainly plays into Flynn's strengths. What we love about Flynn is at the heart of everything he does, he's a competitor."
