Carlton duo Kade Simpson and Jacob Weitering are racing the clock to be fit for the Blues clash with St. Kilda on Friday night.
The two key defenders for the Blues are both battling calf injuries, while the club is also keeping an eye on fellow defender Caleb Marchbank who's being monitored for a raised heartbeat.
The Blues will be without ruckman Andrew Phillips for the remainder of the year due to a hamstring injury in what has been a disastrous 2018 season for Carlton.
Weitering injured his calf during the 65-point loss to the Brisbane Lions which saw him sit out the final term, while Simpson was a late withdrawal from the fixture due to calf tightness.
Carlton footy boss Andrew McKay said Simpson's calf tightened during the last session of training prior to the game.
"We gave him every opportunity to play, but on Saturday morning we felt it was still too tight to risk playing him.ย He'll be a test at the end of the week and we're hopeful he'll be available," McKay told the club's website.
"Jacob felt some tightness in his calf during the game. We were concerned about further injury, so he didn't see out the remainder of the game. He has pulled up well and will be tested at the end of the week."
Marchbank was admitted to hospital following the game regarding the raised heart issue, but was later discharged on Sunday and has not yet been ruled out of this week's clash with the Saints.
McKay also stated Phillips will seek treatment for the season ending injury.
"Andrew will see a specialist in the coming days to determine the full extent of the damage, but he will be sidelined for the remainder of the season," McKay said.
"Clearly we're disappointed for Andrew and this adds to our growing list of injuries, but we will fully support him in his rehab from this injury over the coming weeks."
