Brisbane star Harris Andrews could be set for a shock position switch.

Lions coach Chris Fagan seems keen to trial the promising defender in the attacking half during the pre-season.

Andrews will lead the Lions as captain in a practice match against the Suns on Saturday.

"I'm not sure what the plan is for this weekend," Andrews told reporters following Wednesday morning's training session.

"I played a little bit forward in the under-18s for Queensland and when I first got to the club I was training as a forward.

"I think we had a couple of injuries down back and they threw me down there and since then I've been there.

"It's been good the last couple of weeks to dedicate time to the forward craft and work on my game."

Injuries will likely dictate whether Andrews plays forward or back as defenders Darcy Gardiner, Josh Walker and Marcus Adams have all had interrupted pre-seasons.

Brisbane’s home and away season kicks off at home against the reigning premiers, West Coast on March 23.
