Richmond ruckman, Ivan Maric has announced his retirement from AFL football.

Maric will play on for the rest of the season and officially walk away from the game at the end of the year.

“I believe it’s the right time and the right decision for the Club and for me, and that makes me feel at peace and happy with the call,” Maric said to his teammates as he broke the news.

“I want to see out the year by preparing my absolute best, to give myself the chance to compete at my best for the team.

“I won’t be pulling up short, I want to finish all the way to the finish line.”

Maric played 77 games for Adelaide after being selected with pick No.40 in 2006 National Draft before crossing to Richmond at the end of the 2011 season, where he has so far played a further 80 games.

The 31-year-old had his best seasons at Punt Road from 2012 to 2015, where he played 21, 20, 14 and 22 games in each of the four seasons. However, he lost spot as the No.1 ruckman to Shaun Hampson last season and has this year been unable to break into the senior side due to new recruit Toby Nankervis.
