Essendon young star Aaron Francis has been carried off the ground a left ankle injury in the club’s intra-club match.

Reports initially suggested Francis went down holding his knee, but in favourable news for the Bombers it looks to be an ankle strain.

Pick 6 in the 2015 national draft, Francis was poised to have his breakout season in 2017, after impressing in the VFL last year.

The Bombers have been unlucky in their intra-club matches so far, with Michael Hurley injuring his ankle in a match just five days ago.

Reports have flown in on twitter that the injury looks serious.

More to come.
