The struggling Bombers have been dealt another cruel blow, with confirmation key position player Peter Wright will miss this weekend's Dreamtime at the 'G clash with Richmond, at the very least.
Scans revealed ligament damage in Wright's knee, sustained in a rucking contest in the first quarter of his side's abysmal loss to Fremantle on the weekend.
Wright played out the match, in some discomfort, but soreness and swelling on Monday morning necessitated scans that revealed PCL damage, Essendon confirmed on Monday night.

“We're disappointed for Pete, who's been playing some of his best footy to date this season,” Essendon's general manager of their AFL program, Daniel McPherson said.
“We'll provide an update on his return to play in the coming days."
The former Sun had kicked 11 goals from 10 matches in 2026, while averaging over 14 hitouts per game - a testament to his versatility and importance for the cellar-dwelling club.
Depending on the yet-to-be-communicated grading of the injury, Wright could be destined for surgery that may keep him from the Bombers' lineup for the rest of the season, and beyond.
