Former Sydney coach John Longmire confirmed he has been in talks with Tasmania.
The Devils are searching for their inaugural coach, which they'd like to lock in towards the end of the AFL season.
A report recently indicated Longmire was keen to jump back into the coaching caper, and the club building in the Apple Isle was his first choice, despite openings at Carlton and Essendon.
"I think there certainly seems from the outside to be a new favourite for each of the coaching jobs going, almost every week," he said on AFL 360.
"It doesn't surprise me there's a lot of noise around there. I, among many people in the industry, have been spoken to (by) Tasmania, but that has been quite open as far as Tassie are concerned, as well.
"They have spoken to everyone in the industry; I was one of them.
"As far as I know, no decision has been made, and that's where it sits at the moment."
Longmire further confirmed he spoke to Tasmania Devils chief executive Brendon Gale, who is one of four people on the coaching selection panel, which includes Grant O'Brien (Chair), Alastair Lynch (Director) and Lauren Jauncey (general manager of strategy, people and culture).
"Yeah, it was a couple of weeks ago. (Gale) has spoken to a number of people, whether they are past coaches, current coaches … I don't think it was a great surprise that I was one of them," Longmire said.
"All the coaches (jobs), all the positions, all the clubs that are looking for positions aren't in that situation at the moment.
"Tassie I don't think have made a decision, and certainly the coaches involved haven't made that decision.
"It's just not at that point – it's too early to be going with headlines like 'all-in'."
Nathan Buckley is also another candidate for the Devils' job, and has previously declared his interest in the role.
Longmire coached the Swans from 2011 to 2024, reaching five grand finals and claiming one premiership during his tenure.
