The AFL website have begun their top 50 player countdown heading into the 2018 season, and following on from the beginning of the count last Wednesday, have now released numbers 20-16 of the Players’ Annual top 50.

Two players make their way into the countdown after not featuring at all during the 2017 edition.

24-year-old's Joe Daniher and Tom Mitchell have both propelled themselves into the top 20 after breakout seasons, with the pair starring for Essendon and Hawthorn respectively.

Daniher kicked 65 goals last season, was named to the All-Australian side and took home the Bombers' best and fairest award, and announced himself as one of the game's premier forwards.

Mitchell had leather poisoning the entire season, as he racked up 787 disposals, the most ever by a player during the home-and-away rounds. He also finished second to Dustin Martin in the Brownlow Medal count.

Brisbane's Dayne Zorko, Essendon's Zach Merrett and Adelaide's Eddie Betts rounded out the five who were added to the list on Monday morning.
