The AFL website have begun their top 50 player countdown heading into the 2018 season, and following on from the beginning of the count last Wednesday, have now released numbers 10-6 of the Players’ Annual top 50.

All five players produced very strong and consistent seasons in 2017, given they were all ranked inside the top 11 in last year's count.

Joel Selwood dropped out of the top five from last season and fell to eighth, while Josh Kennedy went from seventh to 10th.

Alex Rance moved himself up four spots after his fourth straight All-Australian appearance, while also leading the Tigers to their drought-breaking flag.

Rance is the highest rated defender for the second year in a row among his peers.

Rory Sloane and Gary Ablett round out the five players who were announced to their positions on Wednesday.
