It's football's night of nights.
The Brownlow rewards the brilliance of a given season, but the Australian Football Hall of Fame rewards the brilliance of a given career. Everywhere you turn, heroes from bygone eras are mingling with more recently retired phenoms.
With so much footballing acumen in the one place, I sought to find out just who some of these greats are tipping to win it all on the last day in September.
Dermott Brereton (Fremantle)
"Well, things are going to have to change dramatically if somebody's going to beat Fremantle," Brereton told Zero Hanger.
"They've got most bases covered at this point in time. The one thing I would say about them is that they're out front and way ahead quite early.
"They are good in pretty well most departments. You show your hand early and it's up to [other] people to be better than you. They're going to take some running down, though."
When quizzed about the fortunes of the club the hardnut is synonymous with, Hawthorn, Brereton praised the growth in the middle of the park.
"I think the Hawks, the journey they're on, they are hardly the completed outfit, but I like where they're at. I like their progress.
"They're lacking a midfielder. Will Day comes back in, but what this [his absence] has done is exposed [Josh] Ward and [Cam] Mackenzie to more midfield minutes and I've seen the growth in them.
"Now you add Will Day back in. I think that is quite a a trio to deal with and then, of course, you've got Jai Newcombe in there as well.
"I like what they're doing. They're not the best team in it, but their best football is pretty good."
