North Melbourne midfielder Trent Dumont has signed a two-year contract extension with the Kangaroos, a club he wants to spend the rest of his AFL career with.

The 21-year-old told AFL.com.au he never really considered any other offer, and is happy to have cemented his spot in the Roos' midfield.

"You do wonder sometimes whether you'll ever (cement a senior spot), but I just focused on working on my own game and I guess you back yourself to be able to find a regular spot eventually," Dumont said.

"If you just keep playing good footy, they'll reward it and I think that's happening this year.

"I was really, really happy with how the club supported me [with a new contract]. It felt like a second family almost and I was willing just try everything I had to stay here.

"I would love to just stay here for my whole career.

"Obviously, I've got my family back in South Australia and it would be nice to be around them, but I love North Melbourne so I was pretty keen to stay here and get it done as soon as possible.

"It's an awesome feeling."

Dumont has played 26 games over the course of his North Melbourne career, after being drafted with the 30th pick in the 2013 AFL National Draft.

He's started this season in strong form, averaging 21.5 disposals and 4.2 clearances a game.
