Young West Coast utility Campbell Chesser is another Eagle set to miss time, as coach Adam Simpson provided news on a number of injuries from a tense Western Derby.

Chesser sustained a left knee knock in the second quarter against Fremantle but played the game out with no interchange players available for West Coast.

Speaking to 7News Perth, Simpson provided clarification on the 19-year-old midfielder.

"Campbell's got a minor knee issue, it looks like he'll miss a few weeks with that," he said.

A host of West Coast stars will be in question for Round 4, with a difficult matchup against Melbourne threatening to send the club into the bottom four.

"(Jeremy McGovern) has got a scan today, so we don't know the results," Simpson began.

"(Alex) Witherden's the concussion protocol, he's okay. Jamie Cripps is booked in for surgery on that ankle, and he'll be, an extended period of time, out of the game.

"Liam Ryan, we've got some scans on his back I think. So we'll see tomorrow how he goes with that. But he's walking around and he's pretty positive."

Captain Luke Shuey was taken out of Western Derby in the third quarter, unable to continue with a hamstring niggle.

Though Shuey's injury left the Eagles struggling for fresh legs, Simpson agreed that his injury looked minor.

"That's probably par for the course for Luke," he said.

"Apart from a few a couple of years ago, they (hamstring injuries) are always quite minor.

"So that's the frustrating part, it's a little niggle... we're hoping it's a short-term turnaround."

Simpson hinted that none of his injured players would return against the Demons, including Chesser.

"There will be six or seven changes this week through circumstance, but that's footy."

To make matters worse, West Coast defender Harry Edwards sustained a suspected ankle injury at training on Tuesday.

Seen as a likely inclusion to face the Demons in the wake of McGovern's setback, Edwards may join the long list of casualties at Lathlain Park.

West Coast will host Melbourne at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 3:2pm local time.
