Adelaide Crows defender Josh Worrell has apologised in a public statement after being handed a fine and conviction in Adelaide Magistrates Court.
Worrell pleaded guilty last week to an aggravated charge of driving without due care after he struck a pedestrian in July.
Worrell received a $2400 fine and was handed a conviction, as he was sentenced on Tuesday morning in court.
“I want to again say how sorry I am for what happened. I accept full responsibility, and the penalty handed down today," Worrell said in a statement released by the club.
“Most importantly, I'm extremely sorry for the impact this incident had on the person involved. I remain very grateful that the consequences weren't more serious. It's something I have reflected on a lot.
“This has been a difficult and important lesson, and with the court process now complete, I'm looking forward to putting this matter behind me and making sure I learn from it.”
The court heard that Worrell ran a red light and struck the victim, who avoided serious injuries but suffered a 2-centimetre laceration to his head and other minor injuries
Worrell spent three hours with the victim and took him to hospital.
The 25-year-old has not been disqualified from driving.
