We're 13 rounds in, and Carlton have already created AFL Rising Star history.

Carlton became the first club to have four nominees in the opening 13 rounds of a season, after Jack Silvagni was the fourth Blue shortlisted for the award.

Silvagni has been added to a worthy list with some fantastic young talent, although at the end of the season there can only be one winner.

We know there's still time for players to be nominated, but we've decided to go through each player's credentials and determine just who could take out the prize in 2017.

Sam Powell-Pepper (Port Adelaide)

Nominated: Round 1 v Sydney (19 disposals, seven clearances, five inside 50s, two goals)

Season averages: 12 games, 17.2 disposals, 3.4 clearances, 4.1 tackles

Chances of winning: Powell-Pepper has been one of the most exciting rookies to date this season, and has already cemented himself in the Port Adelaide midfield. Expect him to poll well.

Ryan Burton (Hawthorn)

Nominated: Round 2 v Adelaide (26 disposals, nine marks, 11 intercept possessions)

Season averages: 11 games, 20.9 disposals, 6.1 intercept possessions, 6.0 marks, 3.8 rebound 50s

Chances of winning: Burton has been one of the shining lights for Hawthorn all season long, and is probably the front runner for this award.

Brandan Parfitt (Geelong)

Nominated: Round 3 v Melbourne (23 disposals, seven intercept possessions, one goal)

Season averages: Six games, 14.7 disposals, 3.3 tackles, 2.0 inside 50s

Chances of winning: Considering he hasn't played since round six after suffering a bad hamstring injury, Parfitt won't be in contention for the award.

Andrew McGrath (Essendon)

Nominated: Round 4 v Carlton (28 disposals, seven intercept possessions, 21 pressure acts)

Season averages: 11 games, 19.5 disposals, 5.2 intercept possessions, 3.2 tackles

Chances of winning: McGrath has been a constant for the Bombers so far this season, and his 80% disposal efficiency means his teammates are happy for him to lead the side in transition. One of the favourites for the prize.

Eric Hipwood (Brisbane)

Nominated: Round 5 v Western Bulldogs (12 disposals, five marks, four inside 50s, three goals)

Season averages: 12 games, 17 goals, 7.7 disposals, 2.7 marks

Chances of winning: He's been one of the more electric Rising Star nominations, but Hipwood just isn't consistent enough to match it with some of the best in the 2017 class.

Caleb Marchbank (Carlton)

Nominated: Round 6 v Sydney (21 disposals, 10 marks, four inside 50s)

Season averages: 12 games, 17.0 disposals, 6.6 intercept possessions, 7.6 marks

Chances of winning: Marchbank has been a rock in Carlton's defence so far this season, and has taken the fourth most marks of anyone in the competition. An outside chance if his form continues.

Sam Petrevski-Seton (Carlton)

Nominated: Round 7 v Collingwood (21 disposals, 20 pressure acts, 10 contested possessions)

Season averages: 11 games, 13.6 disposals, 3.4 marks, 4.5 tackles, 3.5 score involvements

Chances of winning: Exploded on the scene early in the season and fully deserved his nomination. Has slowed up recently, but a strong back half of the year could have him near the top.

Tim Taranto (GWS)

Nominated: Round 8 v Collingwood (21 disposals, five tackles, 10 contested possessions)

Season averages: 11 games, 15.8 disposals, 4.3 score involvements, 4.3 tackles

Chances of winning: The young Giant has slotted in well with the top-two side, and could find himself in the top three rookies at the end of the season.

Tom Phillips (Collingwood)

Nominated: Round 9 v Hawthorn (24 disposals, five marks, 20 pressure acts)

Season averages: 11 games, 20.0 disposals, 4.2 marks, 3.2 inside 50s, 4.6 score involvements

Chances of winning: Phillips hasn't skipped a beat as a Pie so far this season, and has been a welcome addition to their 22. Not quite among the favourites, but will get some votes.

Wayne Milera (Adelaide)

Nominated: Round 10 v Fremantle (16 disposals, five marks, three goals)

Season averages: 11 games, 16.5 disposals, 3.5 marks, 4.7 score involvements

Chances of winning: The speedster has had some very strong performances for the ladder leaders so far this season, and has added another dimension to the Crows strong ball use. May push for a spot in the top three.

Dan Butler (Richmond)

Nominated: Round 11 v North Melbourne (13 disposals, four inside 50s, two goals)

Season averages: 10 games, 11 goals, 12.5 disposals, 5.0 score involvements, 3.1 tackles

Chances of winning: Butler has come into the Richmond side and been a vital part of their pressure-orientated small forward line, but hasn't had the same impact as some of the other rookies around the league.

David Cunningham (Carlton)

Nominated: Round 12 v GWS (19 disposals, 21 pressure acts, 10 contested possessions, two goals)

Season averages: Four games, 14.3 disposals, 5.0 tackles, 3.8 inside 50s

Chances of winning: Cunningham has impressed in his early stages with the Blues, but just hasn't played enough games to challenge the best.

Jack Silvagni (Carlton)

Nominated: Round 13 v Gold Coast (13 disposals, six marks, five inside 50s, two goals)

Season averages: 11 games, 10.9 disposals, 5.3 marks, 5.3 score involvements

Chances of winning: Silvagni has given Carlton fans plenty to cheer about throughout 2017, and is another player who could push for a top three position with a strong second half of the year.
