Geelong's Gryan Miers is a test to return on Saturday night against Collingwood following his complicated knee injury.

Miers has not played since the Cats' one-point loss to Hawthorn on Easter Monday, with Geelong considering sending him under the knife for surgery after scans revealed a partial tear of the ACL.

Ultimately, he is currently playing through the injury and the club will continue monitoring him during the week, and, stunningly, he is a chance to feature in Round 9.

Meanwhile, Brownlow Medalist Matt Rowell is a test to feature with a decision to be made on whether he returns from his ankle injury to be made following main training on Wednesday.

Hawthorn's Calsher Dear is unavailable for Hawthorn's Thursday night clash with Fremantle due to an adductor injury.

“He pulled up at training on Sunday with adductor soreness and we sent him for a scan, he's got an adductor strain which will rule him out of this week. These things can turn around quite quickly so we'll reassess next week whether he resumes full training next week or the week after,” Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge said.

North Melbourne midfielder Luke Davies-Uniacke will need to get through training on Thursday before he is ticked off to play having experienced hamstring tightness following Sunday's loss.

Melbourne forward Brody Mihocek has been listed as three to five weeks away after failing to play out the Dees' Round 8 game due to a hamstring injury.

Connor Budarick and Riley Garcia are both tests to provide reinforcement for Western Bulldogs, while forward Cody Weightman has been given a timeline of three to five weeks as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

Collingwood ruck Darcy Cameron is a test after sustaining an ankle injury in the Pies' draw against Hawthorn. Should he miss Saturday night's clash against Geelong, it would be youngster Oscar Steene's first game as sole ruck.

Adelaide pair Taylor Walker and Jordon Butts are unlikely to be sighted before the Crows' bye due to hamstring and adductor strains respectively.

Richmond midfielder Tim Taranto is expected to return this week as he progresses through the concussion protocols, while youngster Taj Hotton's return has been given a timeline of six to eight weeks.
