Delisted Carlton player Clem Smith could be thrown a lifeline by the Eagles.

Channel Seven reported on Wednesday evening that West Coast has shown interest in recruiting the young Western Australian.

Smith played 15 VFL games in 2016, but was unable to break into the senior side, and discarded by the Blues last month after seven AFL games in two seasons.

He was selected with pick No.60 in the 2014 National Draft.

The Eagles are also looking to fill the void of injured star Nick Naitanui for 2017, with 316-game veteran Drew Petrie one of a number of players on West Coast's radar.
