West Coast midfielder Elliot Yeo has avoided an ACL rupture after sustaining damage to the medial ligament in his right knee and syndesmosis in his ankle.

Yeo suffered the injury after landing awkwardly during a tackle in match simulation on Friday and was subsequently sent for scans.

โ€œThere are always risks involved as we increase the intensity of training to prepare for the season, and unfortunately, Elliot has sustained injuries to his right knee and ankle,โ€ said West Coast GM Gavin Bell.

โ€œWe are working through his rehab program and a return-to-play timeline - at this stage, we're hopeful he will be available early in the season.โ€

In 2024, Yeo enjoyed a strong return to form after several injury-plagued years, finishing second in the John Worsfold Medal.

The 31-year-old averaged 22.5 disposals, 6.45 tackles and 6.92 clearances across 20 games.

Yeo recently signed a contract extension with the Eagles, securing his position with the team until the end of 2027.

West Coast remains hopeful that their star midfielder will be available for their Round 1 clash against Gold Coast.
