Carlton veteran Dale Thomas has suffered numerous injuries throughout his time at the football club. Ankle injuries saw his first few seasons heavily interrupted, but that is now an issue of the past.

Essendon premiership player Tim Watson believes Thomas deserves applause for his ability to bounce back from numerous injuries and be one of Carlton's only consistent 2019.

“There’s a bloke we should give a bit of a thumbs up to and that is Daisy Thomas,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.

“He was whacked for a couple years for his lack of productivity and his injuries and where he was going with is footy and all of that sort of stuff.

“He’s been outstanding again for Carlton.”

Last year the 31-year-old signed on to Carlton on significantly less money despite a strong season. This season Thomas has averaged 20 disposals, six marks and five rebound 50s.

Thomas moved from the midfield down back and former St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt believes this move will give him the ability to extend his career.

“I saw him (Thomas) the other day and he said how long’s this been going on (playing at half back)?” Riewoldt said.

“Being able to run around at half back with freedom. It’s just the best move a player could make.

“Leigh Montagna, when he went to half back he just loved it. He could still be playing now.”

Despite another strong performance from Thomas this weekend, the Blues were unable to back up their strong first quarter ultimately leading to their defeat. The Blues look to redeem themselves against North Melbourne who has also won only one game in 2019.
