West Coast's Oscar Allen will be looking to quickly forget an opening quarter gaffer in front of goal against North Melbourne, with the young Eagles star missing a shot at goal from point-blank range.

Midway through the second term at Marvel Stadium, Allen was looking to add to his earlier major and capitalise on the ball flying over a marking pack directly in front of his side's goal.

When the ball landed in Allen's lap while he ran into goal, the 23-year-old looked to be in two minds as teammate Jack Darling streamed by for the pass.

An awkward ball drop and poor execution from inside the goalsquare saw Allen's shot trickle through for a behind, with the Eagles forward seen with his head in his hands in disbelief.

"Missed an absolute soda," commentator Liegh Montagna said of the miss.

Fellow commentator Jason Dunstall added: "He thought he was going to get run down surely because all of a sudden he just tried to throw it on the boot as quickly as possible."

The error would see West Coast record their first behind of the match and extend their lead to five points.

Saturday's match is Allen's first since Round 23 of the 2021 season, with a foot injury early last year keeping the exciting forward sidelined for the entire 2022 campaign.

At the end of the first quarter, North Melbourne carry a one-point lead over the Eagles.
