Melbourne has reportedly emerged as a contender for St Kilda captain Jack Steele as the 2025 trade period nears the 7:30pm (AEDT) deadline.
Steele holds a contract until the end of 2027 at the Saints, but after his exit meeting, he was informed by the club to explore his options if he wants more consistent midfield minutes.
The Moorabbin club is set to unveil a new era that has welcomed the likes of Sam Flanders and Tom De Koning, while youngsters Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Marcus Windhager, Mattaes Phillipou and Hugo Garcia are tipped to claim prominent roles.

The Demons' interest comes as the club is working with Gold Coast and GWS to broker trades for Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
The pair are under contract until at least 2029, and have explored their futures elsewhere in the past.
New senior coach Steven King has been on the front foot in attempting to lure rival players to the club, and has successfully landed Max Heath and Brody Mihocek.
The prospect of Steele would help boost the club's leadership profile, and contribute to moulding the next generation of young talent.
Melbourne holds Picks 24, 28, 42, 66, 71, 84, 102 in November's draft, with a second-round pick for the 29-year-old looming as a fair price.
Steele has played 202 AFL games in 11 seasons, with 185 for St Kilda since joining from GWS in 2016.
