Western Bulldogs ruckman Tim English is a "big chance" to return this week from injury to face Fremantle.

English has been sidelined with a knee injury since Round 4, adding to the injury turmoil suffered at the Whitten Oval in recent weeks.

However, in positive news for Bulldogs fans, reporter Mark Stevens, speaking on the Six Points AFL podcast, provided an update on the ruckman's chances of returning this week.

"There is some big breaking news, Tim English is a big chance to come back," Stevens said.

"There has been a lot of talk that he would miss another week, trained strongly on Saturday, my sources say.

"I think English is a chance to come back; there is an issue there with pain management, he'll probably have to manage that to get through.

"So it comes down to the type of personality that you are in footy, he's bang and crash in the ruck, so he potentially could have played the last couple of weeks, just getting himself right.

"Hopefully he can get up and just manage that pain, because the medial I don't think is going to get any worse."

The Bulldogs will rejoice if English returns, who will be preparing to do battle with in-form ruck Luke Jackson as well as Mason Cox.

Aaron Naughton was involved in a scary incident against the Swans, landing on his head after going up in a marking contest.

The key forward was cleared of any serious injuries and will be monitored in the coming days to determine his availability for the Bulldogs' clash with Fremantle.

Small forward Arthur Jones is also set to return against Fremantle after a low-grade hamstring injury he suffered against the Bombers.
