Under celebrated Collingwood ruck Oscar Steene made his mark in Collingwood's stirring last quarter comeback win over Carlton.
The fourth-gamer kicked two goals across the match and put the ball on a platter in the ruck for Nick Daicos to run rampant and give Collingwood ascendancy at stoppages.
He finished with 15 hitouts, eight disposals and two goals.
"He's unbelievable...there's been the shift in ruck rules which suits Oscar Steene's game. An underrated side of his game is his aerial game, he went forward and kicked two goals and took bug clunks," Nick Daicos said on AFL 360.
On multiple occasions across his early games, Steene has been used at centre ball-ups to utilise his natural athleticism, with the youngster having the best vertical leap at the Magpies.
He then rotates forward with Darcy Cameron, allowing his more seasoned teammate to utilise his combativeness at stoppages around the ground and drop back to provide an extra man in defence.
"I feel like him and Darcy Cameron are really complementing each other really well. Darcy is really good around the ground so they're doing some deals and it's been really effective for us," Daicos added.
Collingwood has struggled to win contested possession and clearance consistently in 2026 but look much more dynamic with the areas of the ground Steene is able to access with his tapwork.
His breakthrough opportunity at AFL level follows three seasons developing in the VFL, having been close to a debut on a number of occasions last year.
