Sydney will be without star ruck Brodie Grundy against Port Adelaide on Saturday with Will Green to make his AFL debut.

Grundy comes out of the side for personal reasons - following the birth of his child during the week.

Green was selected with Pick 16 in the 2023 AFL Draft and is coming off a 41-hitout match in the VFL.

The 204cm ruck has averaged 11 disposals and 28 hitouts in the VFL across five games this year after missing the first half of the season with an unusual broken foot after tripping down a set of stairs at the MCG.

“What the players love about you (Green) is your ability to compete, your mobility and your ability to play your role,” Dean Cox said when announcing Green's debut to players on Friday.

“Nothing different has to happen tomorrow, enjoy the day, the game and make sure you do what you need to do at the right time.

“That's something you've done in the VFL so take real confidence into doing it again tomorrow afternoon, well done.”

Important Port Adelaide forward out

The Swans need to beat Port Adelaide to stay in the top two and strengthen the prospect of a home qualifying final.
