Hawthorn has signed train-on midfielder Lachlan Bramble to its rookie list for 2021 via the pre-season supplemental selection period.

The club on Friday afternoon confirmed in a statement that the 22-year old had earned a spot on the list after impressing in recent trial matches.

Hawks footy boss Rob McCartney was excited by Bramble's potential.

“We’re excited to bring Lachlan into the fold at Hawthorn,” McCartney told hawthornfc.com.au.

“We see plenty of upside with Lachlan, he’s got experience playing at the VFL level with Williamstown and had signed on with Box Hill earlier this year. He has shown good development over the past few years and has plenty of room to grow.”

“Lachlan has presented himself strongly over the pre-season and our recent trial matches. He’s got versatility in his game, shows skill on both sides of his body and possesses good speed and power.”

“We believe the added maturity of some life experience outside of football will set Lachlan in good stead as he takes the next step in his football career.”

He was one of three players vying for a spot on Hawthorn's list along with Dandenong Stingray Will Bravo and Tasmanian forward Jackson Callow.

Bramble has impressed in the VFL in recent seasons and was originally set to play for Box Hill in this year's new-look competition.

Hawthorn have one more list spot available following Tom Scully's retirement ahead of next Tuesday's pre-season supplemental selection period deadline.

List spots can also be held over to the June 2 mid-season draft.
