It's a sombre day, is ANZAC Day.

A day Australians come together to recall with reverence of the sacrifices of the men and women who have served this country.

Since 1995, two of of the nation's biggest sporting clubs have gone head to head on April 25th, serving up countless classics to do their part in honouring the servicemen and women the day celebrates.

Collingwood, and Essendon. Two Victorian powerhouses who, over the years, have seen their colours adorned by some of the codes biggest names. Here's a ranking of 10 of the very best players who have featured in the Magpies v Bombers showpiece since its inception. It's some list if Gavin Brown and Nick Daicos can't get a gig!

4. Nathan Buckley

Ah, "Bucks". Synonymous with the black and white. Still bleeds it.

Nathan Buckley had a particular gravity in the AFL. The uncompromising captain of the nation's biggest club for the better part of a decade, Buckley lived his exceptional standards every day, and reaped the personal rewards because of it. The ultimate team success infamously eluded him, but there is no shame in falling twice to one of the greatest sides of all time, while carrying sides that featured players who simply weren't at the level.

A Norm Smith Medal in one of those losses, a Brownlow, seven All-Australians, a club record six best and fairests, and an AFLCA Champion Player of the Year nod define a glittering legacy as one of the Pies' very favourite sons.
