Richmond superstar Dustin Martin won't feature for the Tigers this weekend when they travel to Metricon Stadium on Saturday to face Gold Coast.

The 2017 Brownlow Medal winner was subbed out of his side's Round 16 win over West Coast due to hamstring awareness, with the club taking a conservative approach for Martin's fitness.

The Tigers confirmed to Fox Footy during the match that the injury wasn't one Martin brought into the game, however it will see him spend at least one week on the sidelines.

The club confirmed on Monday that Martin won't make the trip to Queensland after suffering a small hamstring strain, with Richmond set to re-assess the 31-year-old in the coming days.

Martin has missed a substantial amount of football this season, having spent seven rounds away on personal leave earlier in the year before missing Round 14 due to illness.

The Tiger are scheduled to face North Melbourne following their clash with the Suns, with matches against finals hopefuls Fremantle and Brisbane to follow.

Richmond are expected to welcome back midfielder Dion Prestia after he underwent the AFL's concussion protocols, while Noah Balta (hamstring) and Trent Cotchin (clavicle) are less likely.

Saturday's matchup with the Suns is scheduled to commence at 4:35pm (AEST).
