Essendon and Adelaide remain viable landing spots for contracted St Kilda midfielder Jack Steele, who was told by the club to explore his options.
Steele has a deal that expires at the cessation of the 2026 campaign, but was informed by the Saints that he is "welcome" to assess rival clubs in a bid for more permanent midfield time.
The Moorabbin club is looking to weaponise its on-ball contingent with a host of youngsters such as Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Marcus Windhager, Mattaes Phillipou and recruit Sam Flanders.

According to AFL Media's Josh Gabelich, the Crows and the Bombers are considering making a play for the 29-year-old.
Adelaide has been keen on bringing in an established midfielder after it was outgunned in the 2025 finals series.
Essendon is hopeful of retaining Zach Merrett amid heavy interest from Hawthorn, but could be planning for life without the six-time Crichton medallist, whilst also adding much-needed experience.
It is understood that West Coast and GWS were open to a potential move, but have subsequently been ruled out.
The Giants are heavily into Clayton Oliver, while the Eagles could look at younger prospects, such as axed duo Finlay Macrae and Harry Schoenberg.
Steele also stood down as St Kilda captain, with Callum Wilkie his likely successor.
