With the unconventional 2020 season now run and won, fans, players and clubs have all shifted their gaze to the meat market of the off-season.

At the present, 16 of the league's 18 teams have finalised their first round of list culls, with 77 players in total told their services will no longer be required.

Either through form, injuries, or a combination of the two, many of these delistees have found it challenging to sew up consistent senior selections in the past.

Although shrinking list sizes will have the majority of these footballing nomads concerned about their future at the game's top level, the impending cuts to the eighteen salary caps may force club's to shop on a budget this trade period.

Many of these delisted names will either return to lower levels or call time on their careers, however, a select few still have something left to offer for a bargain basement wage.

With this in mind, these are the seven delisted free-agents that AFL list managers should bear in mind when completing their squads for next season.

3. Jamie Macmillan

Following North Melbourne's Round 11 matchup against the Demons, Jamie Macmillan departed the club's hub. The defender's choice to return to Victoria for the birth of his first child didn't just allow him to enjoy the joyous occasion in person, it sadly spelt the end of his time in blue and white.

After 167 games over 11 seasons at Arden Street, Macmillan, along with 10 of his teammates, was notified that his time as a Kangaroo was complete.

Now aged 29, time isn't exactly on the defender's side. However, in a needs-based market, he is without doubt the best one on one defender available for nothing.

At six foot two, the former third round pick won't be seen as a full time key defender, but with many teams appearing to have holes in their back six, they could do worse than contact Macmillan's management.

Take St. Kilda for example.

Should Jake Carlisle turn down the contract that is said to be in front of him at St. Kilda, Macmillan could provide a cheap stop gap for the Saint's youthful backline.

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio Monday morning, St. Kilda's head of list management James Gallagher suggested that they are looking to sure up their back six this off season.

“Possibly. Bit similar to the forward line. We played Dougal and Jake most of the year and that combination seemed to work. Even in the finals, Cal Wilkie (did a good job). That is an area of the ground we may look to stiffen up with next year,' Gallagher explained.

Whether these plans involve Macmillan is yet to be determined, still, they could do worse with their bottom dollar.
