Giants big man Dawson Simpson believes that banning phones to create more communication amongst teammates is the path to go down.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, Simpson said that banning phones "around any meal times.... and any time on the bus" will produce more banter and essentially more of a bond between teammates.

"The senior boys got together to try and looked at ways we could try and get a couple of per cent better here and there," Simpson told The Daily Telegraph.

The only exception would be en route to games which allows players to get themselves ready.

The trip west to play the Eagles saw this new policy in action.

"We had to confiscate a few phones and it was like being back at school," Simpson said.

"It's been quite funny actually how itchy some boys get just sitting there in silence."

But the Giants are determined to eradicate this "social issue" and become closer as a unit.

The new rules the AFL have implemented this season means that communication pivotal. The changes regarding the runners which have resulted in reduced time allowed for runners to be on the ground means the players have more onus to guide and direct one another.

"It's pivotal that our communication skills go up a notch because the runners only get 45 seconds and they won't get to all the lines... during that time," Simpson declared.

"There's a lot more responsibility on the players and we're adapting quite well."
